Job Summary:







Assist the hygienist in delivering excellent patient care. The scope of work encompasses a variety of clinical duties that promote effective and efficient operation of the practice and foster favorable relationships with patients, staff, and dentists of the practice.

Essential Functions:

The following is a summary of the essential functions for this position. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below, and specific job functions may change periodically.









  1. Set up rooms for all hygiene procedures. After each patient, sterilize operatory and instrumentation according to OSHA/CDC standards. Stock/restock the room with instruments and supplies prior to each procedure.

  2. Seat patients, take vitals, and obtain consents. Assist the hygienist with patient charting. Schedule the patient's next appointment, and assist with schedule coordination.

  3. Review medical and dental history. Assist with patient education/oral hygiene instruction. Obtain necessary diagnostic procedures, which may include radiographs and intraoral photos.

  4. Perform lab duties such as pouring models and fabricating whitening trays.


Basic Education, Training, and Experience Required:








Required



  • CPR certification, Coronal Polishing(Pedo practices only), radiographs within 6 months of hire date

  • X-ray techniques, computer, fax machine, copier


Preferred



  • High school diploma

  • Basic Dental assisting course completed

  • Certain states may require licensing

  • Hard tissue charting, review medical and dental history, provide oral hygiene instructions, sterilization of operatory and instruments, take impressions, trim models, and fabricate trays.

  • Intraoral camera, caries detection, and open dental software

  • Digital radiograph technology and clerical skills
